Buzzell Senior Center: Therapeutic Social

A key part of the Elder Service Department is our Buzzell Senior Center. The center has an environment that is not only inviting, but also safe and enjoyable for elderly residents to be able to communicate with their peers and participate in many daily classes and activities. Social interaction is vital to our seniors and has a therapeutic value. There are approximately 1,300 elder visits a month for participation in Senior Center programs.

Movies

On a monthly basis a popular current (or golden oldie) movie is shown at the center. Popcorn or other treats may be served.

Luncheons

Periodic luncheons are hosted at the senior center. These are good healthy lunches served with a festive air. Sometimes the senior center hosts them. Sometimes others (church groups, the police department, or local organizations) come in to host them.

Trips

Bus trips are regularly arranged and scheduled. Usually each trip includes some sightseeing or other activity and a meal. This past year there have been boat trips, duck tours, a casino trip…

Open Kitchen

Seniors may plan casual gatherings with their friends, or show up to find new friends. Have a cup of coffee (free) and a donut (gift from North Wilmington's Dunkin' Donuts).
