|
|
| |
| |
Large, well-balance meals are available to seniors for the price of $1.00. This assures
that seniors can get at least one square meal a day, Monday thru Friday. These meals are
prepared by West Intermediate School. Menus are published monthly by the Buzzel Buzz newsletter.
Following are two ways to obtain a meal:

Meals on Wheels
During the year 2003 this program has provided 14,976
meals. This program provides homebound elders of Wilmington
with one hot meal five days a week for the minimal cost
of one dollar per meal. There are approximately 60-75 meals
delivered daily Monday through Friday. The elders not only
rely on these meals (most are physically unable to cook),
but also on the human contact. The drivers are responsible
for reporting to the Senior Center after making deliveries
to give an update on the elders they visit. The elders and
their families are assured that if there should be a problem
during the time of the delivery, the elder will be assisted,
and the family will be notified.
All meals are cooked without added salt. The main course
is cooked without added sugar. There may be added sugar
in deserts only. Meals on Wheels is only available to the
home-bound. A signed note from a doctor stating recipient
can eat the foods offered is required.
Call 978-657-7595 to request service. Doctors may fax
notes to: 978-657-4807.
